I have been loving changing up my quiet time routine and trying out some new Christian resources to help my in my relationship with the Lord, and can’t believe how much I’ve grown in my quiet time with the Lord since Part I of this post. From podcasts, to YouTube and anything from books to just changing the environment, these are all things I have personally tried and tested, and have found to be really beneficial!
1. CHANGE OF BIBLES
I loved my little, tiny pink NKJV bible that my dad gifted to me when I got to college. It has so many memories, thoughts and looks like a highlighter threw up on it, if nothing else! I hold it near and dear to my heart, but as of lately I have been loving bible journalling and have found that I get more out of my bible studies when I write all over the page. Of course I went to my Pastor dad’s bookshelf and found the most beautiful, leather bound, MASSIVE NLT version bible I have ever laid my eyes on!
This is the Life Application Study Bible from Tyndale, in the New Living Translation (what a mouthful!) and it doubles as study bible, that has literally changed how I apply the bible to myself! I love thats its almost as big as my face and more so, has so many historical and meaningful notes all over the place, making it influential in applying God’s word to ourselves. Highly recommend this big whopper of a bible, but in general having a couple of versions of bibles can really help us to find the deeper meanings behind scripture.
Do I even have to say anything about books!? I have been in love with so many different Christian authors, and have been so blest by adding book reading to my quiet times. Many times these books study a certain word or topic in the bible and sometimes even have interactive questions and real life applications. I have mention many in both my recommended book lists for 2018 and 2019, so do check those out, but below I have listed some amazing authors, whose writing has really impacted my life.
- Priscilla Shirer
- Ravi Zacharias
- Lysa Terkeurst
- Katie Davis Majors
- The Kendrick Brothers
- Billy Graham
- Tim Keller
- C.S. Lewis
- Sadie Robertson
3. CHRISTIAN MOVIES
I know that you wouldn’t really think about movies as a quiet time or bible study resource, I beg to differ! I have seen so many amazing Christian movies, who dialogue I literally meditate on, stick all around my room and use in my blogs. Although many are mostly dramas, the words have been very carefully written to reflect scripture and I have at times (when I’ve just wanted to get away from everything and have had no strength sit down and do a whole bible study) watched these movies and meditated on their words. Some of these movies even come in book form, AND have bible studies that go along with them! Do check them out!

4. INSTAGRAM RESOURCES
I know technically, we’re supposed to be off social media during our time with the Lord, but I think as long as it’s used to a certain extent and we can all practice some self-control it is a really awesome resource! There are hundreds of Christian Instagram channels for anything from quotes, to bible verse to bible study and to just even typing Amen in the comments, there is an Instagram channel for it. My own Instagram Channel @aymer_ayd had all these resources on it too!
Not only that IGTV has really awesome episodes of people sharing their thoughts on bible verses and about topics, and the Instagram stories of many Christian Youtbers I mentioned in Christian Resources I’ve Been Loving!, have amazing daily stories and encouragement! Instagram is a great way to both draw nearer to Christ and to share your faith with the rest of the world.
Can’t recommend podcasts enough to you! While driving the car, folding clothes or tuning out in a really boring lecture, Podcasts are the way to go! Here are some awesome podcasts, and be sure to check out their You Tube channels as well, for even more bible based goodness!

6. CHANGING YOUR ENVIRONMENT
I know you’ve seen those vintage, Pinterest pictures with women holding their coffee with a bible in their hand, staring off into the sea perfectly. Well…you can be with the Lord, and in His dwelling place just about anywhere! This year I have been waking up early (hyperlink) to sit outside my house, on a ripped mat and in my pj’s, to spend some one on one time with the Lord. Honestly, its the best thing I ever did! Recently, I created a war/ prayer room for myself so that I can spend time with God, specifically in prayer with just a few lights on (hyperlink). Walk around your house today and see if you can find a few spots which you can turn into a small bible study or prayer room/ space, or maybe even find a new space!
All these resources have helped me to grow in my faith so much and the time that I spend with the Lord is no longer something I have to force myself in, but something that I yearn to get to in the morning. I’ve realized that before I go to sleep all I’m thinking about is a hot cup of coffee and God’s word! I really hope you found something in here that you didn’t already know about and do let me know in the comments below how you do your quiet time!
